Who is a Psychoanalyst_

Psychoanalysts are experienced mental health professionals, already possessing advanced degrees ( MD's, PhD's, MSW's ), who have undergone psychoanalytic training. Outstandingly qualified scholars from such fields as sociology, philosophy, or history also occasionally undertake psychoanalytic training.

Psychoanalytic candidates undergo a personal analysis, attend classes and seminars on many htmlects of psychoanalysis, and analyze at least three patients under supervision. Those who go on to become child analysts take further classes and analyze children ranging in age from toddlerhood to adolescence. Most graduate analysts also practice psychotherapy, and many are skilled at couples therapy, psychopharmacology, or allied treatments.
