The Friends of the San Francisco Psychoanalytic Institute was founded in 1976 as a non-profit organization with a mission to provide the general public with lectures and seminars on psychoanalysis. The Friends has subsequently become a meeting ground for psychoanalysts, related professionals, students, scholars and the lay public to explore the relationship of psychoanalysis to the law, social issues, education, anthropology, film, literature, history and art.
