Who Can Benefit from Psychoanalysis_

People who benefit most from psychoanalysis are those who have certain basic strengths, who are potentially sturdy, but who are significantly impaired in love and/or work. They may be depressed or anxious, be tormented by indecision or unwanted thoughts, or be irrationally afraid of certain activities. They may have sexual incapacities, be unable to feel close to anyone, or have a sense of pervasive dissatisfaction or inferiority. Some people come to psychoanalysis because other treatments have not resolved their difficulties. Children may have symptoms similar to adults, or may not be mastering age-appropriate tasks in their maturation and development. Each person's presenting problems are different, but a consultation with a psychoanalyst can establish whether or not psychoanalysis is indicated.
